O discurso indireto conta o que alguém disse sem repetir as palavras exatas: She said she was busy. É essencial para resumir reuniões, ligações com clientes e conversas no chat.

- Say = dizer, sem pessoa logo depois: She said that... Tell = dizer para alguém, sempre com a pessoa: She told me that... Explain funciona como say: explain the problem to me, nunca explain me the problem.
- O that depois de say e tell é opcional: He said (that) he was busy.
- Com said ou told no passado, o tempo recua um passo: presente → passado, will → would, can → could, present perfect e passado → past perfect.
- Se a informação ainda é verdade, o americano muitas vezes não recua: She said she’s on vacation this week.
- Pergunta indireta: asked + if/whether (sim/não) ou asked + palavra wh-. A ordem vira de afirmativa, sem do/did: She asked where the file was.
- Pedidos e ordens: ask/tell + pessoa + to + verbo: He asked me to send the invoice. She told us not to wait.
- Ajuste as palavras de tempo e lugar se a referência mudou ao relatar a fala: today pode virar that day, tomorrow → the next day, yesterday → the day before, now → then, here → there. Se você ainda está no mesmo dia ou lugar, a troca pode não ser necessária.

Erros comuns
- Errado:
She said me that she was busy.Certo: She told me that she was busy.Say não leva a pessoa logo depois. Com a pessoa, use tell. - Errado:
He told that he was sick.Certo: He said that he was sick.Tell precisa da pessoa (He told me...). Sem a pessoa, use say. - Errado:
He asked where was the file.Certo: He asked where the file was.Na pergunta indireta, a ordem é de frase afirmativa: sujeito + verbo. - Errado:
She asked me did I send it.Certo: She asked me if I had sent it.Pergunta indireta de sim/não usa if ou whether e não usa did.
