Phrasal verbs são verbo + partícula (up, out, in, off, back...) com um significado próprio, muitas vezes diferente do verbo sozinho. Eles dominam a fala e o chat americanos; estes são os 20 que mais aparecem no trabalho.

- O significado é do conjunto: figure out = entender, resolver; turn down = recusar. Aprenda cada um como vocabulário novo.
- Separáveis: o objeto pode ficar no meio ou no fim: set up the meeting / set the meeting up.
- Com pronome (it, them, him), o pronome fica obrigatoriamente no meio: set it up (nunca set up it).
- Inseparáveis: o objeto sempre vem depois da partícula: look into the issue, run into a problem, go over the numbers.
- Os de três partes não se separam: come up with, get back to, catch up with.
- Phrasal verbs são mais informais. Em texto formal há equivalentes: find out → discover, put off → postpone, call off → cancel.
- Alguns viram substantivo: a follow-up, a setup, a backup, a login (o verbo é log in, separado).

Erros comuns
- Errado:
I'll set up it.Certo: I'll set it up.Com pronome, ele fica entre o verbo e a partícula. - Errado:
I will return you tomorrow.Certo: I'll get back to you tomorrow.Retornar um contato é get back to. Return significa devolver ou voltar a um lugar. - Errado:
Can you fill the form?Certo: Can you fill out the form?No inglês americano, preencher formulário é fill out (o britânico usa fill in).
Pratique antes de avançar
- Escolha 5 phrasal verbs da tabela e escreva uma frase sobre o seu trabalho com cada um.
- Substitua pelo phrasal verb: We canceled the call. I will investigate the issue. Can you schedule the meeting? I will postpone the release.
- Reescreva com pronome: Set up the call. Turn down the offer. Back up the files.
