O presente simples fala do futuro em dois casos: horários e calendários fixos (The meeting starts at 9) e depois de when, after, before, as soon as e until (I'll call you when I arrive). No segundo caso, o português usa o futuro do subjuntivo ("quando eu chegar"), e o inglês usa o presente.

- Horários e programações fixas costumam usar o presente simples: voos, trens, reuniões e início de uma atividade. The flight leaves at 6:40 p.m. Até um compromisso pessoal pode ser apresentado como parte de uma programação: I start on Monday.
- Verbos comuns nesse uso: start, begin, finish, end, open, close, leave, arrive.
- Lembre do -s na terceira pessoa: The meeting starts. The market closes.
- Uma oração é uma parte da frase com um verbo. Quando essa parte começa com when, after, before, as soon as ou until e situa outra ação no futuro, use o presente: I will call when I arrive.
- Compare: I will call (vou ligar) é a ação principal; when I arrive (quando eu chegar) informa quando ela acontecerá e usa o presente.
- Português x inglês: "quando eu chegar" = when I arrive; "assim que o pagamento chegar" = as soon as the payment arrives; "até ela responder" = until she replies.
- A outra parte da frase usa will, going to ou imperativo: Send me the file when you finish.
- A oração de tempo pode vir antes (com vírgula) ou depois: When I get the file, I'll check it. / I'll check it when I get the file.

Erros comuns
- Errado:
I'll call you when I will arrive.Certo: I'll call you when I arrive.Depois de when, o futuro vai no presente simples. É o "quando eu chegar" do português. - Errado:
As soon as the payment will arrive, we'll let you know.Certo: As soon as the payment arrives, we'll let you know.Nada de will depois de as soon as. - Errado:
The meeting start at 9 tomorrow.Certo: The meeting starts at 9 tomorrow.The meeting é terceira pessoa: start leva -s. - Errado:
When I'll have the numbers, I'll send them.Certo: When I have the numbers, I'll send them.Will (inclusive a contração 'll) não entra na oração com when.
